Kilimanjaro: The Return

Posted on:

In a repeat of the BBC’s epic trip up Kilimanjaro in 2009, this year saw a brand new group of celebrities take on Africa’s highest mountain – hoping to scale its 5,895 metres in aid of Comic Relief.

The ‘#ReturnToKili’ team comprised Strictly Come Dancing judge Shirley Ballas, dancer Ed Balls, broadcaster Anita Rani, Love Island’s Dani Dyer, Dan Walker from BBC Breakfast, Pointless host Alexander Armstrong, NFL star Osi Umenyiora, and Little Mix’s Jade Thirlwall and Leigh-Anne Pinnock.

After seven gruelling days of altitude sickness, brutal terrain and severe weather, the team successfully reached the summit – a feat that was celebrated last night on BBC One in an hour-long documentary revealing the full story of the team’s ascent.

HyperActive Broadcast supported work on the production, supplying four Avid Media Composer Nitris DX Suites, Avid NEXIS Storage, two Quantum LTO-7 tape drives and two 24TB Synology DiskStations to Evolutions Television. And BBC Studioworks will also use two of our EVS ChannelMAX XT3s for tonight’s main Comic Relief show.
