Thick Crust Hyperactive, with extra Pepperoni please

Category: Random
Tags: Staff food Team

While salads and smoothies were firmly on the menu for the beginning of the year and with the 'mince pie madness' of the Christmas period finally behind us, it seems that with work hotting up, those new year's resolutions of being healthier have slipped by the way side, but it's all for a good reason!

We've had some new great projects come in, the Winter Olympics are just around the corner and with February looking to be easily as busy as January, we've been working late and making the most of the company expense account as takeaways become the preferred choice for dinner!

But before you think we're all sitting here, relaxed, eating a Curry, or munching prawn crackers and eating Sweet n Sour Chicken with chop sticks, you'd be wrong. It's all well planned... we've figured out most takeaways require 2 hands to eat them.. but with a crispy thin cut pizza at the optimum temperature you can actually have a piece in one hand while still typing or holding the phone in the other. So not only are we able to keep working, but we're still able to eat.

Hyperactive.. Super heroes powered by Pepperoni!
You probably know how much we love shiny new kit and with a great start to 2010, we've seen the recent purchase of new Avid Interplay systems to compliment and expand our already comprehensive inventory. An Avid Interplay system forms the basis for any larger scale, networked media management solution, it provides excellent organizational tools and makes it possible to edit incoming feeds from the growing streams. So next time you're working on a complex fast turnaround project then give us a call and have a chat about how Interplay can make your post production less stressful.
With Christmas just a few days away we've been inundated with gifts from clients, friends and suppliers and mince pies seem to have been the choice this year which is great, but one look at James's desk though and you will see a clear definition of excess. Thank you all for the gifts. We look forward to working with you in the new year.
The actual office will however have a reduced number of staff and will operate an 'emergency only' service for regular customers from the 24th December 2009 to 3rd January 2010. Rest assured however we will be back in force after celebrating the new year and here for normal business as of the 4th January 2010.

Category: General
Tags:

So as the saying goes: 'work hard, play hard' and it's seems we're firmly committed to both. With a strong team spirit both in and out of the office, its not surprising the launch of something like 'Call of Duty - Modern Warfare 2' sparked some interest.

While many of us aren't into the 'gaming' thing, it seems we've still been drawn into the offices ungrounded movement. With battles taking place in evening and weekends from the comfort of their own homes, we've heard tales of casualties and disaster as well as gloats of success (you know who you are!), not to mention the surprising and most welcome interest from several clients who have joined the throng as the battle continues.

So if your at a loose end one evening/weekend and fancy a game or are just interested who's on the leader board drop us mail. (18 and over only please!)
We're already discussing editing requirements with various broadcasters and with this in mind we've just taken delivery of another five Avid Unity MediaNet v5 shared storage systems.

Avid Unity offers true simultaneous sharing of media in SD & HD and is expandable up to a massive 128TB. UnityRAID protection ensures reliabilty allowing the system to ride through a drive failure and the latest software version allows both Media Composer and Final Cut Pro systems to be connected.

Other Hyperactive Unity systems are currently in constant use on feature film and drama productions.

Another first for Hyperactive and the BBC - This time a complete DNxHD Avid/EVS workflow saw an increased 185M/bits per second travel across the network offering the very best quality throughout, and feeds for both BBC HD and BBC Two. The production staff loved the media management facilities and we loved every second of making it happen. Thanks to all concerned and to the BBC for another great job.
Luckily for him this time however it was 36º pure sun all the way, a quick trip to Budapest in one of our air conditioned Renault Masters and an all you can eat and drink buffet for 2 nights...It’s a hard life!

But it's not all easy going, he did (with the help of Rob) have to lift ½ tonne of Avid kit up 6 flights of stairs (pics below). So there is some consolation for us all sitting back here in the office.

Despite this rather unflattering self proclamation of being 'Ready Salted', we hope you’ll join us in welcoming Peter Hammond to the hire desk.

With the recession still hanging around and many companies cutting back, we seem to be getting busier and busier, which is of course great news and to ensure we continue to exceed our client expectations we’re not just investing in equipment, but the people behind it. As the driving force behind our business, their relentless passion and commitment to the job make us who we are.

As an experienced co-ordinator Peter comes to us with many years previous hire desk experience for a major events company and has already started to make his mark here. When he’s not admiring architecture or studying its history in places such as Rome, Prague and Portigal you’ll probably find him snowboarding on the ski slopes, playing a spot of cricket or gearing up for the motor racing on the box.

All in all, a great new member of the team. Welcome Pete!

Category: Projects Equipment
Tags: Avid EVS HD Music Festival BBC

One of the year’s most memorable music events and once again we were there from start to finish and this year in glorious HD. With Tom and Joe working around the clock, five Avid Nitris DX systems and four EVS XT(2)’s played centre stage, with BBC 3, BBC Worldwide and The Red button all taking feeds. All in all a great event and project for our team, just the sort of thing we love. Check out our Big Weekend portfolio entry for full details.

Wedlake Joins Hyperactive, Restructure includes new MD

Category: Press
Tags:

Broadcast Rental Company Hyperactive Broadcast Ltd has recruited Roger Wedlake as Technical Director with effect from 10th November. Roger joins Hyperactive after 19 years with hire company Finepoint Broadcast, where he was Chief Engineer.

Wedlake’s appointment is part of a major re-structure and investment programme at Hyperactive. Long-term Hyperactive managers James Gander and Richard Salter take up new positions, James becoming Managing Director and Richard Operations Director. Owners Bob Griffiths & Mike Jopp still plan to play an active role in the business.

2009 is going to be an interesting year, and we believe that it’s an excellent time for the expansion of our rental business, as capital purchase budgets shrink” says Griffiths. “Our Avid and ProTools department continues to grow, and with Roger Wedlake joining us we intend to invest strongly in Broadcast Equipment in 2009, indeed, we anticipate a spend well in excess of £2million”.

Hyperactive provided equipment and technical support at the Olympics in Beijing for several major Broadcasters including the BBC, and is the largest UK supplier of Avid systems to the Film and Television Industry.

HyperActive Wins the Olympics.

We did however provide an enormous amount of Avid equipment for use by six International Broadcasters, including the BBC. We sent our technicians to Beijing to rig and support everything. The BBC system was massive, based around Avid's ISIS, with 18 Adrenalines and 60 Terabytes of storage. Everything worked beautifully, and the clients were delighted with our installation and support.

Olympic Demand makes us the heavy hitters of the games

The world's strongest man award of the Olympics must surely go to the baggage handlers who took care of our equipment en route to the Olympics in Beijing. The Avid equipment shipped for the BBC alone weighed in at over 5,000Kgs

As well as the massive ISIS-based system with 18 Adrenalines we supplied and installed in Beijing for the BBC, we also provided equipment and support for another five International Broadcast Companies. The volume of kit sent to China was staggering. Sadly there aren't any medals for broadcast equipment.

We're listening to our clients - and investing in the process!

Following the Launch of Avid's brand new Nitris DX Media Composer we've taken delivery of 12 of them already!. Together with broadcast equipment for the Olympics this has brought our investment total in state of the art equipment recently to almost 1,000,000.

Director Mike Jopp, when talking about the choice of Avid said; We didn't look closley at any competitive products because, for the majority of our clients, there aren't any serious competitors - people ask for Avid so that's what we supply.

And that's what it's all about. If the industry wants it, we're there to make sure it's available.

HD growth brings new Sony camera channels.

Category: Equipment
Tags:

Due to the increasing demand for High-Definition content, we have just invested £400,000 in Sony HD Camera Channels.

We chose the Sony HDC-1500, which is the market leader in top-end Hi-Def Cameras, as we'd noticed an increasing demand for them amongst our clients, both for Studio and Outside Broadcast applications.

Sony offer a huge list of options for this camera, and we decided to carry a full range of viewfinders including the new 9" colour LCD. Some clients like to use the HDLA-1500 Camera Frames that take a long lens and 7" CRT viewfinder, and this combination is particularly popular for Sports coverage.

Want to find out more about the range? Just call...
